The Dancer and the Thief (2009) is Oscar® winner Fernando Trueba’s screen adaptation of Antonio Skarmeta’s (writer of Il Postino) novel is a whimsical story of two men planning a daring heist in post-dictatorship Chile. Strong performances from Argentine actor Ricardo Darín (9 Queens) and young Spanish discovery Abel Ayala in the lead roles ensure the film is infused with energy and dynamism.

Fernando Trueba on The Dancer and the Thief: No sooner had I put down “The Dancer and the Thief” that I began re-creating a filmic version of it in my mind. As a rule, I do not read novels thinking of their cinematic incarnation nor am I on the lookout for stories to adapt. I believe what most attracted me to this project, above all, were the three main characters. I wanted to spend more time with them. I had fallen in love.
